ABOUT THE PROJECT

Neom is to be the world's first fully sustainable city to be run entirely from renewable energy. I was tasked with leading the creative and directing the development course for an AR construction app. Certain creative and development aspects have been omitted from this project summary.

AR Construction App

Creative, product and UX expertise were utilised for this AR construction app. I assisted building a multi-user experience for the iPad Pro to show construction progress within the Neom region.

Project Summary

Development on this AR construction app had commenced prior to me joining the team.

My primary objective was to flesh out the existing UX flow for Oracle. I conducted ideation sessions with stakeholders using insights derived from hands-on user research as the basis for platform improvements.

I provided creative direction for both the overall aesthetic and the output of discrete discipline areas (tech, art, sound and design).

Prior to elaborating on the user experience, I conducted a comprehensive assessment of the pre-existing work completed before my tenure, engaging with all relevant stakeholders in the process.

App Assessment

The application visually presented pivotal construction phases through a chronological timeline.

The user possessed the capability to observe and navigate constructions from ground level, which were accessible through a point of interest CTA.

Product Iteration

The existing features of the app were functional but needed further iteration to allow for better insights into build phases.

Implementation of user identification was a desirable to ensure the safeguarding of all confidential materials.

Refinement was necessary for the points of interest mode, aiming to enhance user mobility and autonomy within the system.

Standardisation was required for creative outputs pertaining to UI, visual art, and auditory elements.

Upon receiving approval for the product enhancements, I created some early rapid prototypes for evaluation.

Whilst advancing the prototyping phase, I commenced the development of the visual language for the application. Numerous iterations were generated, after which both stakeholders and I collaboratively refined the prototypes down to a selection of two, which remained under consideration.

The stakeholders expressed a preference for pursuing the 2D approach. Subsequent refinements were applied to the prototype, enhancing its user-friendliness and navigational aspects. These adjustments garnered unanimous approval from the pertinent stakeholders.

Development Direction

This prototype served as the cornerstone for the UX overhaul initiative. Clear and concise guidelines were communicated to all relevant disciplines to direct their development efforts.

Additionally, proactive measures were taken to address emerging features, ensuring the project's preparedness for future demands.
